چکیده

1.1 Incidence and costs UTIs are a major source of morbidity and associated healthcare costs in the United States (US). Community-acquired UTIs largely affect women of reproductive age, with 11% of women experiencing infections each year, one-third of women having an infection by the age of 26, and 60% experiencing at least one infection during their lifetime (Foxman et al., 2000). In 1997, the last year for which epidemiological data is available, these infections resulted in 7 million physician office visits and 1 million emergency room visits (Foxman, 2002). Treatment of these infections cost $1.6 billion in 1995 (Foxman et al., 2000), which is the equivalent of $2.2 billion in inflation-adjusted 2009 dollars. UTIs are also a major health problem for hospitalized patients, especially those undergoing long-term catheterization. Catheter-associated UTIs account for >40% of nosocomial infections, with over 1 million cases per year at a cost of $451 million (Jacobsen et al., 2008).

Investigation of prevalence and antibiotic resistance pattern of bacteria isolated from urinary tract infections in women referred to Ghaem hospital in Mashhad

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most commonly problematic bacterial infections, especially among women. Increasing drug resistance requires the determination of an antibiotic resistance pattern for proper treatment. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence and antibiotic resistance against bacterial agents isolated from urinary tract infections in women ...

Epidemiology of Urinary Tract Infection and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern in Patients Referred to Amiralmomenin Hospital of Gerash City in 2018

Background and Aims: Urinary tract infections are one of the most common human infections seen in all age groups and both sexes. Inappropriate use of antibiotics to treat urinary tract infection causes the resistance of the pathogens to the drug. The present study aimed to determine the frequency of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria and antibiotic resistance patterns in patients with uri...

Evaluation of antibiotic resistance associated with ophthalmic oqxAB pumps in Klebsiella pneumoniae causing urinary tract infection

Background: The urinary tract infection is the secondary most common human infection. Colon bacteria, including Klebsiella pneumonia, are the main cause of urinary tract infections. The occurrence of the antibiotic resistance is a major problem in the treatment of infections. Beta- lactamases and efflux pumps constitute the major defense mechanisms of antibiotic resistance of Klebsiella pneumon...

Antibiotic Resistance Pattern and the Prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) in Urinary Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae

Abstract Background and Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen causing a variety of infections including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, septicemia, wound infections and infections in the intensive care units. Since the ESBL producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains are increasingly causing urinary tract infections, we aim to assess antibiotic resistance pat...
